Booking privately with Advanced Vascular doesn’t require a referral in hand first, though we’ll always keep your GP informed as a simple first step, not a hurdle to clear.

If you’d like to see Dr Aziz privately, the easiest first move is to call or enquire directly with us. Once your consultation date is confirmed, please contact your GP for a referral. It’s a quick, straightforward step, and it’s one your GP will be familiar with.

Why We Still Recommend Looping in Your GP

Even though a referral isn’t compulsory to book, keeping your GP in the picture is still good practice. It means your medical record stays joined up, and if you ever need further imaging, shared follow-up care, or anything coordinated between your GP and Dr Aziz down the track, that groundwork is already in place.

If You’re Already in the Public System

The public pathway works differently, and it’s worth understanding the difference before you decide which route suits you. To be seen through the public system, a GP referral is required. Care is generally led by a consultant vascular surgeon, and while you’ll be assigned to a specific consultant, treatment is often shared across a small team rather than delivered by one person throughout.

Public treatment also tends to be reserved for more significant cases. Because varicose veins are so common, GPs will usually manage milder presentations first with conservative measures such as compression stockings, and a referral to a vascular surgeon typically follows when there are more significant symptoms, visible disfigurement, or a risk of skin damage or ulceration.

The public system is under continuous strain which makes timely assessment and treatment difficult to achieve. Booking privately with our practice means those non-surgical options, including radiofrequency ablation, VenaSeal, and sclerotherapy can be discussed at your very first consultation, regardless of how mild or advanced your symptoms are.
